What Does A Mail Company Have To Say About Health?
Corporate blog sheds light into how one large corporation thinks about health. Unsurprisingly, it's all about the individual.
Actually, quite a lot. Recently, I came across a blog written by Mike Critelli, Executive Chairman of Pitney Bowes. As I browsed through his postings, I found a number of missives focusing on the mail industry. However, I was very surprised to see commentary about the US health system. Critelli has a lot to say about how individuals can play a role in their own health.
For example in one post, titled “Health As A Social Activity,” Critelli writes:
“At Pitney Bowes, we start with the realization that the most important social network is the family unit. If we can reach the individual who makes health-related decisions for the family and persuade that individual to drive healthy behaviors in the family, we have gained a great deal. That’s why we did a home mailing in October to urge our employees and their families to get flu shots.
The workplace peer group is the second most important influence because individuals typically spend more waking hours at work than anywhere else. That’s why we have emphasized creating a culture of health in the workplaces we control.”
We spend most of our waking lives thinking about and participating in workplace-related activities. Thus, it is not surprising that large corporations have taken many steps to better employee health.
Critelli’s blog makes for interesting reading and provides an important window into the health-related decisions of one large organization. If Critelli’s blog is any indication, there is (and will continue to be) a tremendous focus on the individual consumer.
