Participant Driven Health Care

by Eric, General Parts International, INC last modified Apr 24, 2008 08:55 PM

We all know the trend for healthcare is going to consumer driven, my idea is participant driven. Employers, 'healthy' people, and people with insurance are tired of paying for the claims of people not in their groups.

1. Premiums based on salary ranges. Those who make the most pay the most.
- They can better afford to.
- Hard to complain about paying more when making more.

2. Rewards for being healthy.
- Lower deductibles for participants in healthy ranges for biometrics.
- Awards ranging from free/discounted gym membership to flat dollar amounts.

3. Rewards for getting healthier!
- Measured biometrics that improve after 6/12 months are rewarded.

4. Company buying into getting fit.
- Company sponsored 'walks during lunch' casual jean day.
- Company offering 1/2 day for those who go to the gym.
- Wellness programs where executives are leading contributors.

5. Diverse Health Plans
- Low premium, high deductible plans for teammates who rarely get sick / low utilization. Employer funded HSA to drive teammates to this tier.
- High premium, lower deductible for teammates who know will have higher utilization.

I liked 2-5 but number one killed you. Salary based premium payment? As long as Us is not socialized... not going to happen
