Shared care during hospitalizations stays

by Michael P. Cyll Cyll Enterprises Medical Consulting Services last modified May 12, 2008 03:21 PM

Allow family members to provide bedside care (non medication administration) to family members hospitalized. By allowing family members to help care, bath, feed, and provide patient advocacy during their stay in the hospital. This would reduce the amount of nursing assistance care needed per patient, and help reduce the labor costs for the hospitals. Family members in many cultures feel it is part of their culture to assist the afflicted family member during their illness. By allowing this practice cost savings coudl be passed on the the whol healthcare system.
With this healthcare plan offered to family members a reduction of helathcare insurance plans could be cafeteria style options and offerings with reduced payment options with family healthcare participation. thus reducing monthly papyment plans for healthcare insurance options. This may allow lower income families to afford healthcare plans for thier family members.

Shared hospitalization care

How would this care be monitored to prevent family members from overstepping their bounds? If a family member seemed to be a detriment rather than help how could you tell them they cannot help any longer without them thinking they are being treated unfairly especially with regard to the money part of it?

Shared care

This is a wonderful idea. Family members are more apt to be better help to a patient, they are more concerned for the patient, only have to care for one patient rather than many and can possibly do a more through job. Some patients may be more comfortable with a family member than a stranger. It may be of a concern that a family member may not be suited for this, but those instances are few and far between and can be dealt with one on one, the greater population could benefit from a shared care method such as this.
